I have a footage that I use to track a motion. Now i want a light in AE to follow this path. Thing is that I can’t select the light as the motion target. Is this even possible or should I convert one of the layers to some sort of other layer ?

    Many thanks in advance,
    Bart

You could apply the motion tracking to a null object then set an expression to the lights position layer. Just pickwhip the position to nulls position.

Thanks Paul, It worked. But unfortunately it didn’t work for the thing i’m trying to achieve. I want to create a writing effect with the trapcode Particular plugin. In the tutorial the path of the emitter is arranged with the expression (wiggle(.5,100). I Changed this path the path of the tracker. So i imported the image-sequence and used a null-object for the motion target and pickwhip the position of the emitter to nulls position.

I would expect this to work but it doesn’t. Hope you see what I’m trying to accomplish here and could give me some tips.
