  • Use a text layer as alpha mask for line, but not touching, and rounded

Posted by Andrei Popa on October 18, 2024 at 3:18 pm

    Hi all.

I have a problem in using a text layer as a mask for a shape layer that should be “Shy” to the text, as in it should not touch it. I succeeded doing this by duplicating the layer, adding a stroke to the duplicate, and using that as a mask for the line.

The problem I am facing is that I would like the line to end rounded, because now it is very sharp whenever it intersects the text.

    THanks,

    Andrei.

Does your line need to go in between the letters like in the example(blue lines) or can it stop at the start/end of each line(red lines)?

Maybe the answer will make a difference to others, my attempted solution isn’t working. Sorry

I dont think I need it to be there between the lines. I can create a rectangle that will follow the text size. I just want to find out if there is a way to make it round when it intersects the alpha mask.

    Thank you for your insight

You might want to try in the expressions forum. I think you could your line that gets masked from the text alpha. Then create a round cap for it. There are search expressions that could find the end of your line post masking and then attach your round cap to it.

I found years ago online and saved it, but I couldn’t modify it exactly for what you want, but perhaps, one of the experts in the other forum will be able to help you.

    Hi there.

Perhaps you could achieve something similar with effects?
