USB Drive for HDV Project????
hi everyone,
so i am editing HDV format on Final Cut Pro for my client and he brough me two USB drives. (all be it high speed USB).
Should i have him return it and exchange them for firewire ???

Yes, USB is unsuitable for any video project.
It has high peak speeds but firewire is more consistant. This means that USB will often give you far more bandwidth than you need but sometimes too little which results in choppy playback or dropped frames. Firewire was designed to maintain a fairly average rate the entire time.
If you’re just copying files the speeds will average out to about the same over time. But if you’re working with video it will lead to problems.

I’ll second that. Have the client return them and pick up Firewire drives. Preferrably something like LaCie or G-Tech or even some SATA drives.
