US Broadcast advice needed

The 1080 broadcast spec in the US is an interlaced signal – 1080i 29.97.

The 720 spec is progressive – 720P.

You can produce progressive if you want, but your final deliverable should be 1080i 29.97.

Typically cutting short form from HD MP4 and P2 MXF.

You need the exact specifications from the broadcaster. Whatever we say here doesn’t matter. There are usually at least three pages in every broadcaster spec guide that deal specifically with video delivery.

No two networks are exactly alike. If you want to prevent the show from being rejected and having to do the entire process again, get the exact specs you are required to deliver. If you’re working through a distributor, ask them.

Walter is absolutely correct! There is no such thing in the US as a “broadcast specification”. It is directly tied to each entity playing back that ad, and each one of them will have posted (or should have posted) a broadcast spec sheet, usually in PDF form. Here’s an example of one from my ADI – but do not assume that it will be the same as where you will be sending it:

There may well be slightly varying specs for each station/network you are delivering for.

I don’t think my post was clear.
So the picture I posted was the ACTUAL delivery specs that they sent me.
If I deliver to those then it should all be sweet.
I guess the question I have is: what do we need to shoot this in. 23.96FPS, 24FPS or 30FPS?
I would prefer to work in a progressive 24FPS timeline if I can as the spot includes stop animation etc as well.
Any advice would be great!

Your delivery specs are 1080i 29.97.
The easiest thing to do would be to shoot the exact export specs and do the animations in the same specs. Or do the animation in 30p and then cut that into your 29.97 timeline and let the computer do the math.

If you want to shoot progressive, try 60p. Or even 30p. If you shoot 24p, then your output will have to invent frames and you’ll get the lovely film to tape transfer blur that may or may not be what you want.
