my canvas and timeline have disappeared! How do I get them back? I know there is a shortcut of some sort but I can’t remember it. Sorry, I know it’s a basic question, just started off on Final Cut Express and going through some teething problems.

    thank

GO INTO THE TABS IN TOOL BAR AT TOP OF FCP AND READ ALL THINGS IN THESE TASB UNTIL YOU FIND ANYTHING YOU WANT TO OPEN OR REOPEN, TOOLS, AUDIO METERS, ANYTHING, READ AND FIND IN WINDOWS TO OPEN ALL MISSING PARTS. CANVAS, , ETC. VIEWER, BROWSER..DUGH,

AFTER YOU READ EVERY SINGLE TAB TO OPEN DIFFERENT PARTS OF FCP THRU THEM , READ THEM ALL AND YOU WILL FIND ANYTHING. OPEN A PROJECT PRACTICE WITH FOOTAGE, AND EXPERIMENT AND YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU WANT.. EVERY ACT HAS HOT KEYS, SET YOU OWN KEYBOARD ADN USE HOT KEYS..
ALSO SAVE IN “ARRAGE” YOUR DIFFERENT SCREENS FOR DIFFERENT EDITING YOU MIGHT DO, IE AUDIO EDIT, TWO SCREEN, CAPTURING. , THEN GO IN WNDOWS AND OPEN THESE FOR WHAT YOU WANT..

    Paul,

All caps is considered the same as yelling. You probably don’t want to be regarded as a screamer here, so kindly take it down a notch please.

If you haven’t already fixed it …

Window -> Arrange -> Standard will restore the original window ordering.

If you still can’t see your timeline – double-click on a sequence in the Browser and it should restore both your canvas and your timeline.

HI, this post is rather old, but I have the same problem: Timeline disappears from bottom of screen but the rest of the layout appears okay. Just can’t edit without the timeline. Have tried usual fixes, need some help. Thanks in advance, Gerrit

figured this out shortly after posting. Double-clicked on “Sequence 1” in my clips bin or “browser” and the timeline reappeared.
