  • Urgent DVCPRO HD – Final Cut PRO workflow question

We’re shooting a movie with Panasonic’s VARICAM at 23.98 fps and have an older DVCPRO HD deck with no firewire support (the AJ-HD130DCP). I’d like to capture from the deck HD-SDI to Final Cut Pro through Deckline HD Pro maintaining the source quallity. I read that Final Cut Pro will only admit this frame rate via firewire. Is this true? Is their a workaround?

Thanks to everyone in advance, Alex.

Have you tried it? Just use the DVCPRO HD 23.98 easy setup and capture…see what happens. It should remove the pulldown on the fly, if the footage has been properly flagged at 24P.

Not true. Just set for 23.98 capture and if the Decklink works the way my Kona 2 does, it will capture correctly.

The Kona 2 or 3 can capture at any frame rate on the fly via SDI to the DVCPro HD codec, I have no idea on the Decklink.

If you do come in via SDI, be sure to capture to the DVCPro HD codec and then if 59.94 is your only frame rate option with the Decklink, you will need to run the Frame Rate Converter on every shot you capture to bring it down to 23.98.

This article from the Ken Stone website has some interesting information about frame rates and such with DVCPRO HD. It was written for FCP 4.5 and I don’t know if things have changed. The experts here could speak to that.
