  • Urgent: APPLE vs. BLACKAGIC uncompressed codecs

    Hi!

Is there still a quality difference between the Apple 10bit uncompressed codec and the Blackmagic 10bit uncompressed codec? Which one is better (for HD 1080 50i work)?

    Thanks!!!

I got this answer from Kristian:

    Hi Georg,

We’ve mainly gone on to adopting Apple’s Uncompressed 4:2:2 codec for HD and SD. This was requested by Apple as well as for better support with Apple’s RT effects. However, we still use our codec for for 4:4:4 RGB HD video.

If you’re rendering in After Effects, you’ll find that only our BMD codecs are available. We deliberately hide the Apple codec in that application to prevent any gamma issues from cropping up.
