I wish to make a DVD of a project my colleague has done on a sony es3 system set to upper field domination. I captured it from a master tape into my final cut and it looks good playing from timeline. But when I compress it with Compressor and burn my DVD I get a strobe effect. Normally my system is set to lower field domination and therefore i changed my sequence settings to upper field and it still looks bad on DVD. I have tried changing fields in Compressor and nothing happens.

I have also tried the “shift field” filter in FCP set to +1 and it suddenly looks strobed when I play it from timeline, but to my surprise it looks alright on the DVD. I suspect that it actually means that the fields are made identical, which, if I understand it correctly, is the same as a deinterlace.

This interlace issue makes my head spin, I dont know in or out. Can someone explain to me in ways I understand how this works and how i can fix it, please.

    Thanks for a quick reply.
It doesnt seem to be that simple, the source material is upper field and whith no further changes in FCP and Compressor set to lower field domination I get this strobe problem. However whith the shift field filter in FCP set to +1 the problem seems solved. As far as I can understand it doesnt get deinterlaced or anything like that.
    All is fine now ( I hope)…
