uploading clips from convention floor
Has anyone used SV Pro on a laptop and uploaded short vidclips from a conference or convention floor during the event? I’ve been tasked with researching this because clients want to have vidclips for social media during the event (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter…etc.) and here’s my workflow thinking:
Fast Laptop with SVPro for ingestion & quick edit/render-out file
FTP file via YouSendIt using a broadband ethernet connection at AV room in convention ctr. (don’t know what they have yet).
I’ve never done this and it should be pretty straightforward I’d think. However someone in the mix made a comment about internet connections being “iffy” at conferences (I think they were talking about wi-fi only) . . . I’m talking about doing ethernet cable out to get a solid output.
Any and all suggestions…greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a good plan. My experience with conventions, having just come back from NAB 2013 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, is that they have two WiFi plans. One is for attendees and is free and limited in bandwidth, and the other is for a fee for the exhibitors but you get much higher and more reliable bandwidth. So check the venue to see what they plan to offer.
You might want to consider using Vegas Pro Production Assistant 2 to do all of the ingest and editing for you. This is what a lot of Sky Diving “Drop Zones” use to give people finished, polished videos of their jump only minutes after making it. You can set up a project template with intros, bumpers, slugs for the actual video, etc. Then you just put your camera card in the computer and Production Assistant sense the card change, pops up and copies the media to your hard drive, invokes Vegas Pro with a project template you’ve chosen, and replaces the slugs on the timeline with your actual video and then renders it out automatically. Of course, you can tweak the edit before you render as well so it can be as automated as you’d like. This will get you from a camera card to an almost finished project in seconds.

Thanks for the input John. I’ll look into the Vegas Pro Prodn Asst. as that sounds like it would be a timesaver.
I checked with the IT guy at the venue and they have several (paid) options for me to consider which is the way I want to go to make sure I have a rock-solid broadband connection. Now I just need to get a beefy laptop to handle the on-site edit. Anyone have any suggestions with an off-the-shelf laptop/specs, etc.?
