  • Upgrading to ONLY 5.1.2

Posted by John Henion on April 6, 2007 at 4:27 pm

    Hi,

Myself and 2 other editors are working on a project. I’m running FCP 5.0.4 while they’re running 5.1.2. Clearly I need to upgrade to be on par with them, BUT they don’t want to upgrade to 5.1.4 to avoid some of the apparent bugs. My question then is – how do I buy the upgrade but ONLY jump to 5.1.2. On the Apple site it’s clear that I will be updated to the latest version (5.1.4). Is there a way to do this?

    thanks

You can’t. 5.1 is a crossgrade that requires sending in your discs. Probably the only version available is 5.1.4.

What bugs are you talking about specifically?

    All the best,

    Tom

You have to search around, but you can find a torrent with all the necessary 5.1.2 upgrades. You must buy FCP 5.1 to install 5.1.2 though.

Based on a search of this thread, these are some of the bugs i’ve heard about with 5.1.4:

    1. Third party effects that do not work – Boris and Colorista (at least
    the
    GUI interface does not work)

    2. 10 bit output – I have to set my Kona-2 or IO La to 8 bit
    uncompressed
output instead of 10 bit, otherwise I get a scrambled screen. This was
    not
    the case in 5.1.2.

    3. Relinking to media from previous projects – had a project go
    completely
berserk and relink to incorrect clips

    4. Loss of RT functionality compared to 5.1.2

    5. Possible project corruption issues

Is this wrong? Otherwise, when is 5.1.5 coming out?

    thanks

Buy the upgrade, then download the 5.1.2 installer from my client site:

    https://clients.editatjoes.com/fcp/

Your new serial number should work with the installer at this link.

I have dual 2GHz Power PC G5 mac

I have FCP 5.1 running on my computer. It runs just fine. I downloaded your install program opened it up and it gave me an alert saying:

“This updater is only able to update an existing Final Cut Pro 5.1 application. Please make sure the application is located in the Applications folder, and is called “Final Cut Pro”

I am only able to hit a “close” button on this alert. The “continue” button is grey. I click on the “close” button and it closes the installer application.

Well, I have the FCP 5.1 already in the Applications folder and it is called “Final Cut Pro”

What do I do now? Thanks for any help.

    Jim

Sorry, I really don’t have any idea why it’s not working for you.
