    Hi there,
It’s been a while that I haven’t asked any question here but I thought hopefully I can get a better idea wether it’s worth it to upgrade to El Capitan. I’m always holding back on OS upgrade till I’m pushed mostly by FCPX updates.
I have a Macbook Pro mid 2012 with 16 GB RAM, 1 GB Nvidia GeForce GT 650M graphic card, 750 GB SSD internal drive, external SSD drives, i7 quad core 2.7 Ghz.
I was just reading in the Creative Cow forum that someone having problems with El Capitan.
BTW, I have the Adobe CC subscription so naturally the latest version. I use Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop time to time.
I like to switch completely to Adobe but my Lock & Load plugin (which I use a lot) and some other plugins are too slow in Premiere Pro so I have to keep going back and forth.

Anyway, I hope that someone has a machine like mine using these softwares and can give me the feedback for upgrading from Yosemite to El Capitan.
With my previous machine (2007 MacBook Pro) I really regret upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard. It became so slow that I had to quickly buy a new machine. I think that is some sort of hidden agenda to push people buying new hardware. Anyway, I don’t get into that.

    Thanks a lot,
    Arya44

I had pretty much the same MacBook Pro Mid 2012 with 16 GB RAM and 1TB SSD running El Capitan without any problems. I was using FCP X 10.2 then. Performance was fine. It may have even been a little better than Yosemite.

I’ve since upgraded to a MacBook Pro Mid 2015 running macOS Sierra with FCP X 10.3 (as of yesterday) and so far so good. I’m also running macOS Sierra on my 2010 Mac Pro 12-Core, 24GB memory, without any issues. Sierra’s been pretty solid.

My only warning is that certain software might not work. I have a Mac Book Pro (2011) and as soon as I upgraded to the latest version of El Capitan 10.11.6, all of my Adobe CS5.5 software stopped working.

Also, I have a Pegasus R6 RAID array, and after I had a drive failure a few weeks ago, I tried to run the Promise Utility to rebuild a new drive, and it wouldn’t work with El Capitan 10.11.6. My wife has a newer iMac, but she was still on El Capitan 10.11.3, and thankfully it worked on hers so I was able to fix my hard drive array.

And last, I noticed that with El Capitan, you now cannot use Disk Utility to stripe a RAID array. For all these reasons, I can understand why another Creative Cow guy told me “we’re still on Mountain Lion for our editing computer.

[Steve Jacobs] ” I noticed that with El Capitan, you now cannot use Disk Utility to stripe a RAID array. “

What was Apple thinking? Why would you remove a features used by most of your professional users? This boggles the mind. Yes, you can still get t the feature from the command line but why make it so hard when it use to be so easy. It just makes no sense at all… but that’s Apple. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
