I’m running Media Composer Adrenaline 1.51 and need to upgrade to the newest version to fix a Windows Media export issue I’m having. The question I’m pondering is… will upgrading have any effect on the projects I currently have on my machine, media drives, etc? I have like five projects currently working on my system and although I need to upgrade and hopefully fix this issue, I certainly don’t want to risk losing anything. Any advice/input?

    Thanks in advance,
    Travis

It’s best not to upgrade mid-project, unless your system really isn’t working. It’s just too big of a risk.

You might want to export to Quicktime in the meantime and use Microsoft’s free Windows Media Encoder to create your Windows Media files from the QT exports. Then do your upgrade once things get slower and you can take the time to troubleshoot should anything go awry.

    Hi There

Bob’s right you want to wait until your projects are off the system, however sometimes workload and so dictates that you never have a time wth no active projects such as i have to encounter.

If you do upgrade the software then my advise is to backup the composer projects and users folders, just incase it all goes pear shaped, and also once the upgrade is completed go into your media drives and delete the database files (not when the Adrenaline software is running). The reason for this as i have found out with Adrenaline upgrades at least is that if you have media in the system when you upgrade, the media tool will not see it after the upgrade. So deletign the databases and loading the software will force the link to be re-made.

Hope that is of some help

Yeah, I concur…on both accounts. Sometimes it’s best not to rock the boat, especially when there are viable alternatives to exporting and transcoding through Avid (I have both Cleaner and Sorenson on the system). However, with the workload I’ve had recently, I honestly don’t remember the last time I didn’t have two or three projects going at once. I do think I’ll wait to upgrade though, at least until things slow down a bit and/ or things start really going haywire with the software. The inablility to export as Windows Media is a minor issue right now that I don’t want to evolve into something major. Thanks for the advice guys.
