Upgrading Mac Pro to Lion
Posted by Donald Riley on March 24, 2012 at 5:58 pmI haven’t seen any comments from anyone using the Lion Operating system on Pre Pro. Does anyone have any experience with this upgrade. I use Snow Leopard now but I will need to upgrade to use iCloud. Any response would be terrific.
Thanks so much.

March 24, 2012 at 6:43 pmI really didnt want to, but access to certain software made it a necessity. The only problem I had was that I initially lost the ability to see my Maxx Digital raid array. I had to search for new Areca drivers and after uninstalling the old and installing the new all was fine. Lion prompted me to update my NVidia CUDA drivers as well. Otherwise all is well.

March 25, 2012 at 3:24 amThanks very much Tom.
I switched over from FCP to PPr back in last September and so far so good. Just getting use to AE as well , I use lots of effects. If you don’t mind, will there be any issues with Spaces, I read somewhere that Lion didn’t have separate windows for the suite.
Thanks again

March 25, 2012 at 8:33 amI took the safest road I could think of: putting Lion on its own bootable disk and installing Ps Ae and Pr on it. It takes a minute to revert back to Snow Leopard, which still happens often. But Lion and the CS5 group seem to play nice. Beta testing Ps CS6 on Lion now and it’s pretty awesome, especially in its use of all eight cores – VERY fast! Adobe’s price on the upgrade will determine if it is worth it. I wish Adobe were putting more energy into modernizing Pr; it’s overdue for a serious GUI overhaul.

Why do you assume that they aren’t?
Actually CS5 for Premiere WAS a major overhaul. All code was rewritten as 64 bits and lots more.

March 25, 2012 at 6:50 pmPr is still pretty clumsy in the drag-n-drop department. Maybe Adobe is putting SOME resource into Pr, but I feel not enough. In PsCS6, there’s already so much good stuff that I have to wonder: why put video there instead of just linking to already-superior Ae? Function is the measure for me. Again, one must muse about how these tweaks to the suite relate to the accountants over the engineers. No dispute that the engineers there are awesome. I just question who’s really in charge? We’ve seen this before (Apple? hint).

March 25, 2012 at 8:38 pmNab is in three weeks. Probably a good idea to reserve judgement about any apps until then.
