Upgrading from Vegas Studio Platinum 9 to Vegas Pro

Yes, Vegas Pro can open Movie Studio files.

Vegas Pro 9.0 only takes up 242MB of disc space. You do not need Movie Studio installed in order to transfer projects to Vegas Pro.

You just open the Movie Studio projects in Vegas Pro and save them to the same place in Vegas Pro format. There really is no “transfer”. The files should all stay where they are.

I actually upgraded from Vegas Pro 8 to Pro 9, and am having a hell of a time with it not retaining my CG information from one saved session to the next. I had 2 instances of Vegas running and copied the text files and a Sony media generated graphic from one timeline and imported it into the other timeline; it worked fine until I closed both files and tried to open the new timeline with the copied text and generated media…the file opens with an error that it can’t find the imported text and generated media…so I have to create everything again! I’ve been working with Sony Vegas for the past 5 years and have gotten pretty proficient with it…so now I’m dealing with a Sony Tech via email, and she’s telling me she can’t duplicate the problem, even though I sent a captured screen of the timeline showing the missing text and generated media files.

Is this a known bug in Pro 9? It also seems to run slower than 8…and what really bugs me is that 9 is NOT backward compatible with 8. Anyway, any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated…I guess I’m going back to 8 until they fix this and other small issues…

To quote Colonel Potter of MASH fame, Poppycock and Balderdash!!
This is a well known bug that is being discussed at length on every Vegas forum I’m on.
Sony is aware of it and are apparently working overtime to come out with a fix for it ASAP.
All that anyone can suggest so far is to save and save often, making sure each save has a new version number on it too.
My workaround is to create my titles in Photoshop and save them in PNG format as Vegas likes those.

Tom, are you using Vegas Pro 9.0 or 9.0a? If it’s 9.0a it’s a known bug. Just go back to 9.0 for the time being.
