  • Upgrading FCP DVCAM system to Digi Beta / HD – Will this work?

Posted by Martin Phillips on February 13, 2006 at 10:22 pm

Am looking into options of upgrading the system here (G5 Dual 2Ghz) from standard FW DVCAM to cope with Digi Beta and or HDCAM. New projects coming up which will need this.

    Thoughts so far:

Install Decklink HD Pro 4:2:2 card (Allowing SDI in and Component out to monitor)
Add SeriTek External RAID (4 x Maxline 300gb) + SATA card

On paper and theoretically this should work – thanks to David and his post here:
https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_read_post.cgi?forumid=8&postid=881915 for helpful ideas. He claims 260Mbps on this setup.

So the question is will this work ok? Budget not quite stretching to fibrechannel yet.

    Thanks – Martin.

Should work fine although dont forget about your monitoring options for HD work.

I’m trying to use Digital Juice’s full page transtions in FCP5. So far I’m not succesful. I have used the Juicer to get the clip but when I place it on the timeline the alpha channel is missing. I called Digital Juice who told me to drag the clip directly to desktop and import into FCP suggesting that this would solve the problem. It didn’t. I called Apple TC who told me that the DV videos don’t have enough room for the alpha channel so I’d need to annimate it??? All my attempts have been unsuccessful in getting the clip to be transparent in the alpha sections of the clip. I hope someone can help me with this as my project is on hold waiting for a successful answer.

    Thanks
