I am upgrading to CS5 and we are building a new computer (64bit) for the new software among other things. My question is this, since I am upgrading from cs3 which is on a 32 bit computer, would I need to install cs3 on the new 64 bit computer so that the cs5 installer would be able to authenticate the upgrade eligibility version of cs5 and install it?

Adobe has to know people are moving from 32 bit to 64 bit and to that end make the upgrade pathway easy.

    No need to install CS3.
You will only need its serial nr.

Better ti install the CS3 too in case you get into CS5 problems. Also all your plugins will not work in CS5 and the CS3 will save them

CS5 also includes a complimentary copy of CS4. However this is designed to ease the path from 4 to 5 not 3 to 5. There is quite a jump with the latter in terms of work flow and structure.

My advice would be to try and keep a PP3 version running in some capacity until you have fully migrated your work across to CS5. Not least because all of your plug-ins will need a 64bit upgrade before they can function with CS5.

I now run CS5 with BCC7 (64bit) but also I have CS4 working with BCC6 and Graffiti alongside to access legacy projects. (Graffiti 5.3 is not 64bit and will not function with CS5)
