  • Upgrading After Effects Version 4

    Hello,

I found an old copy of After Effects standard version 4. I just bought a upgrade to 7, and was wondering how this would work. It says on the upgrade that version 3-6.5 can be upgraded using the software. The problem is version 4 only works with OS 9, and version 7 works with OS 10. Do I need version 4 installed on my computer for the upgrade, or do I just punch in the serial number for the upgrade?

    Thanks

I upgraded AE3 to 7 (and then to CS3) a couple of months ago on my G5. AE3 launched Classic to do the installation but the upgrade was just in OSX. I do think you need to install the older version on your machine to do an upgrade if you are able – once it’s upgraded you can trash the older version.

I believe that you can just enter the v4 serial number. AE will check your machine for v4, and if it doesn’t find it, will ask for your old serial.

There may or may not be an issue upgrading from standard, and not Production Bundle … it might be okay.

    Thanks for the replies,

Just wondering how you launched classic from a G5? I thought that the G4 was the last computer able to boot to OS 9.
