  • Upgraded to Tiger, now video preview is not working.

Posted by John Martin on October 14, 2005 at 2:29 pm

I recently upgraded my G5 to Tiger via clean install. After reinstalling After Effects and the latest drivers for my AJA Io box, my video previews are now displaying a strobe effect when outputing. If I turn all kind of external previewing off in AE, my RAM previews work fine. However, when I turn video previewing on, AE does not continuosly update to the preview monitor while its rendering. AE will wait until the entire render is does or interupted by the space bar before it will output. The best part is, when it finally outputs a video preview, it sluggishly plays one frame at a time with a black frame in between each, creating a headache inducing strobe effect. System specs include a Dual 2GHz G5 with 2GB RAM, AJA Io box(with newest firmware and drivers), Final Cut Pro HD 4.5, Sony Trinitron 14″ NTSC preview monitor. I work in NTSC 10bit Uncompressed video. Hopefully someone can please help me, I’m just about tapped out of resources.
    Thanks,
    John

Hmm, don’t know about that one. I assume you already tweaked all the options in the AE video out prefs. Have you posted in the AJA Cow? What drivers or other software have you changed except for Tiger?

Many apps had to have special drivers to work in Tiger. Make sure you have AJA’s Tiger drivers all going.

Not sure if its a bug in the new AJA Io drivers but if I switch output mode to “Pro Io-NTSC-Component YPbPr Betacam 525-8bit 422” rather than 10bit (which is what I use) the video preview works properly. AJA has been contacted concerning this issue.
