  • Upgraded to architect 5.0, no audio

I had been using vegas pro 6 and dvd architect 3.0 until last week.

I purchased the upgrade to vegas pro 9.0a, and dvd architect 6.0b.
When I insert an avi file into the dvd archiect 6.0b, no audio plays. The video is fine. The audio squiggles are there. But when I play the video in the timeline, I get 1 second of white noise, then nothing.

When I preview the dvd, no audio, when I prepare the dvd, no audio.

If I take the same clip into architect 3.0, audio works fine.

If I open an architect 3.0 file with architect 5.0, no audio.

I uninstalled and reinstalled architect, no difference.

Must be something simple, any ideas.

First….AVI is not really the correct format to to use
in DVD Architect or other DVD authoring software…
the format to use is mpeg2…Try rendering out
your footage to this format and see if everything
    runs as it should.

AVI is just a container for video and audio that use any one of a number of codecs. I assume your AVI file is using an audio codec that is not supported by DVD Architect. Use a utility like GSpot to see what codecs the AVI file uses. You will need to convert the audio into a format that DVD Architect supports.

AVI is not a format. Its an extension understandable in the FAT32 and NTFS disk structures. The point is, to make sure that the avi is DVD complient. I’ve said this loads of times, but I’ll say it again:

No in fact i wont 🙂 Check wiki.

If you give your authoring s/w a compatible file, it can get on with things much easier.
It will also be much quicker.

Don’t forget, a common ‘mistake’ people make in SVP is that they forget to check that the audio is part of the render.

Audio should be kept at 48k 16bit, exactly the same at DV.

Thank you for taking the time to point out the differences between AVI, format, containers, and MPEG 2.

Why does DVD architect 3.0 work perfectly with all my AVI files and DVD architect 5.0 not work on any of the same files?

Did version 5.0 become worse? Or do I have a bad installation?

It sounds like you may have a bad install. Anything DVD Architect 3 accepts, version 5 will accept and more.

    Problem solved. Software bug confirmed.

I isolated the problem to be the fact that the AVI files I use are DV type 1. Architect prefers type 2.

The Engineers at Sony Creative verified that Architect not working with DV 1 is a bug. They expect to fix it in a future release.

Thank you everyone for your help.
