I just upgraded the memory on my Mac G5 (OS-10) to 3 Gig of ram, hoping it would speed up the rendering in Final Cut. It has made no difference. It says the new memory status is okay. Anyone else experienced this?

Sorry, RAM does NOT effect the speed of rendering, only the prosessors do. (actually bus speed, data pipelines, etc. also do, but in simple terms)

The RAM will let you work a little faster by not taking so long to move files, copy files, waveform previews, multiple apps running, etc. That should be a little quicker and better.

Ram doesn’t help the speed of the computer; it helps keep up the max speed of the computer. For instance, if you get to low on ram then the computer will start slowing down and sometimes freeze up for a bit. Adding ram is good to keep it going if you use RAM intensive applications, or a lot of applications at once. Apple has said that PowerMac G5s’ spped is relative to the amount of its RAM, but I’ve never noticed a difference.
