I’m looking to justify the purchase of a quad-core system and Final Cut Studio 2. But for that kind of expenditure I need to be able to produce a credible estimate of a productivity bump.

I’d like to be able to say, if it takes me an hour to render something with Final Cut Pro 5.1, on a dual 2 GHz G5 with 2 gigs RAM, it will take me, say, 20 minutes to render with Final Cut Pro 6 on a quad 2.66 GHz Intel Mac with 4 gigs RAM.

Is there a way of determining that?

The quad will be just about twice as fast rendering as the dual G5… real close to 2X faster… encoding to MPEG will also be about twice as fast. More RAM will allow for more programs running at the same time, and an ATI X1900 graphics card will make Motion 3, and Color sing very nicely.
