December 1, 2011 at 3:15 pmI’m enjoying faster rendering time in Vegas Pro 11.0 with it’s GPU accelerated FX + the GPU accelerated renders. It really is faster than 10.0 was. I’m using an NVIDIA Quadro 4000 graphics card and haven’t had any problems. It may be the people who are using cheap gaming cards that are having the problems. Graphics cards seem to be one area where you get what you pay for as far as stability is concerned.
[Chris Siers] “…unless Sony does improve with it’s current version and then offer us an upgrade at e reduced cost.”
I doubt there will be another reduced price (at least I’ve never seen them do that before). It is usually offered for the early adopters and that’s it. As you have read, many people buy it to get the discount and just wait for the first patch or two before they start using it in production. If it truly doesn’t have any features you need then by all means, wait for the next release.
I have had some rendering problems with Vegas Pro 11.0 when using the new text titler but it’s been hard to get a reproducible test case. I’m just continuing to use the legacy text for now. Other than that, Vegas Pro 11.0 has been fairly solid. I just used it for my last two Boris TV episodes and it performed at least as good as 10.0 except that it renders faster now.

December 1, 2011 at 6:53 pmI went from 9 to 11 and initially had problems, had to install it 2x, due to rendering issues. Now I’m OK, but was very disappointed with the Stabilizer plug in, waiting for NewBluefx to update theirs for VP11. Fortunately my graphics card was OK with the first update.
So far so good, 9 was the first version I have used with Vegas and I’m glad it was stable while I was learning to use the program.

December 1, 2011 at 9:23 pmMy gut reaction to an upgrade at this point would only be to get the ver. for some future bug fix. I’m on 9 also, and for what it’s worth, I’m not sure I’m far enough up to speed with all of it’s intricacies to need the upgrade.
As of today, being out of the offer from Sony, I think I’ll stick with 9. 🙂
If it moves . . . Shoot it!

December 2, 2011 at 8:24 amI agree. I ran into one fairly annoying bug, apparently in a plug-in… it wasn’t a difficult work-around (I was kind of in a panic at the time, having found a 2-Day deadline was actually a 1-Day deadline, so I didn’t document it all), but otherwise, Vegas 11 has been a big win for me. Most of this paid stuff I’ve done recently lines up almost perfectly with the things that Vegas 11 actually does accelerate well (in particular, layers of animated stills mixed with bits of video).
With that said, you are taking something of a risk with any N.0 release from pretty much any software company. The most annoying thing about Vegas is the simple fact they never offer even a single revision backward compatibility in file format. So if you’re well into a project and discover a nice, shiny new bug in SVP11 that you can’t work around, you’re likely to spend some time moving the project to SVP10 (XML, AAF, cut & paste… each has its flaws).
