Upgrade Ram = Slower Render?

Just want to follow up on this thread. Following this advice solved my problem:

top riser:
slots 1 & 2: 4gb (matched pair)
slots 3 & 4: 1gb (matched pair)

bottom riser:
slots 1 & 2: 4gb (matched pair)
slots 3 & 4: empty
