I am trying to wrap up some post-production on a 3 hour movie I have been working on. The movie is in standard def, 720×486, at 23.976 fps. My exporting procedures have usually been to create a video mixdown, add a timewarp fluidmotion deinterlace effect onto the mixeddown (or would it be mixdowned?) video, render the effect, and export to sorenson.

However, I have been noticing that the video playback after squeezing it has been kind of stuttery, and imagine that if I increase the performance of my computer, then it should take care of that.

    Here are my specs:
Windows XP (32bit) Home SP3, Intel Core 2 E7400 @ 2.80 GHz, 3.25 GB of RAM, NVIDIA Quadro NVS 290, Media Composer 3.1.3

So, my only real option at the moment is to upgrade the processor. I can’t add more ram because 32 bit XP won’t recognize the full 4 that I have right now. My thoughts are that if I upgrade to at least an i3, then that should allow it to render faster and more effectively, correct?

Anything else I might be able to do?

More than likely it’s your drive speed thats the problem. what resolution are you working at and on what type of drives?

720×486 at 23.976 fps. I have also been working primarily on external drives. I have almost all of my media files on 4 external hard drives. 3 of these drives are Seagate FreeAgent Desktop External Hard Drives that spin at 7200RPM, and the other is a Western Digital My Book Essential External Hard Drive, of which I cannot find or remember the drive speed, but it has a data transfer rate of up to 480 Mb/sec.

    Does this help?

I would try doing your video mixdown in smaller chunks, like 15 mins chunks. see if that gets you better performance.
