  • upgrade or not Mac Pro 1,1

My Mac Pro 1,1 is running fine, 10.6.8. Should I attempt to upgrade the operating system? It appears I cannot upgrade to Mountain Lion anyway. I’m running FCP 7 and Adobe CS5.5, soon to be CS6.

    Thanks.

    Hi Bob –
    CS6 wants a 64 bit operating system.
A brand new Mac Pro is $2200, and you can find it cheaper if you search the web. I saw a new one for $1899 recently, and of course, there is always e-bay.

These are new 64 bit 5,1 machines. The 1,1 is not going to run 64 bit. Bite the bullet, and get a new machine. Besides, what else do you need your money for, if it’s not to give it to Apple ?

Current 1,1 owner here. Speaking to the “bite the bullet and buy,” it seems to be a certainty that the Mac Pros are getting a refresh in early 2013. Even if it’s just to get a price drop on used hardware, it’s worth holding off the 2-3 months and seeing what the refreshes bring.
