    Hello,

I am going to work on a documentary film shot in DVCPro HD 1080.
My computer is a Mac pro 2×2,66 GHz Dual core, with 7 Go of Ram (OS 10.5.6 FCP 6.0.5).

Here is what I plan to add to optimize the workflow:

    – For monitoring, a “DeckLink HD extreme” capture card. What do you think of this card?
    – For the graphic card, I am going to buy an ATI Radeon HD 3870 512Mo to work faster within After effects. Is this card also optimized for Final Cut Pro? If yes, what’s the benefit ?
    – I saw in the FCP FAQ forum that they recommand a RAID 5. Any help about this? Do I need an additionnal card?

    Thanks for your help,
    Antoine

[antoine dufour] “- For monitoring, a “DeckLink HD extreme” capture card. What do you think of this card?”

They are fine. They also have the cheaper Decklink Studio that does about as much. Many of us here are fans of the AJA Kona cards, but Decklink cards work fine. There is also the Matrox MXO 2.

FCP doesn’t really rely on the graphics card. Some of the FX Plug plugins do…so there is some benefit.

Yes, you will need an additional card. First, here is what a RAID is:

Then here are good companies to look for one:

And, I doubt that ATI Radeon HD 3870 will work in a machine that is PCIx anyway.

antoine, I think you should get the aja brand card instead.

I own both brands. The black-magic cards do not down convert
very well compared to the aja. AJA support is much more responsive.

only the aja cards can downconvert 720P.

    Thanks for your help.

We changed our plans. For monitoring, we’re going to use a standard TV (not necessarily HD). What card do you recommand in this case?
Color corrections will be done later, on a different work station.

Thanks for the video tutorial “P2 Import in Final Cut Pro 6” very useful

Well, you have a MacPro…so if you get a TV with HDMI in, then you can get the ultra cheap Decklink Intensity…that has HDMI in and out ONLY. Hear it is pretty slick.
