May 14, 2007 at 2:20 pmDon’t bother. FCS2 arrives tomorrow. Just hop up to FCP 6

May 14, 2007 at 2:21 pmIf you have FCP 5, then you can only get as far as 5.0.4. For over a year Apple offered the FCP 5.1 Universal Crossgrade…a $49 upgrade special. You had a year to send in your FCP 5.0 disks and receive 5.1 install disks that worked on PowerMacs and Intel macs. That deal ended March 19th, 2007. Now the upgrade that Apple offers is to FCP Studio 2, including FCP 6. And for that the upgrade price is $499. WELL worth it if you ask me.
Sorry that you missed out on the 5.1 upgrade deal…but it was offered for over a year, and talked about quite often on many forums, including this one.

May 14, 2007 at 5:05 pmno i fully understand….and i really appreciate all the great advice.
my problem is that i left my on-air television career after 12 years…
this is my 5th year trying to get a quality production facility together…
and it just seems like everytime that i get ahead…i have to spend another 500-1000 dollars!i actually thought that upgrade was for folks that had the intel chip in their computers…
so i didn’t even think about upgrading at that point !oh well…i continue to learn….let’s just hope it doesn’t bankrupt me !!!
thanks so much again for all the advice

May 15, 2007 at 1:25 amAlso remember how much the TV station paid for that big editing room you used to work in for 12 years. A pretty nicely-equipped FCP room goes for a fraction of that cost these days!
Every three months there’s $500-$1000 to spend, at least. Put it in your budget, charge a fair rate that covers that and your other costs, and you may be surprised how fast you’re actually turning a profit.
