So I have a version of Xpress pro, I believe v. 4.8 running on my 1.25Ghz G4 with maxed out 2 Gigs of RAM. The OS is 10.4.6.

I would like to upgrade to Xpress Pro HD. A couple basic questions.

    1. Will my G4 be able to handle editing HDV material? (Or should I go get a new computer altogether)

    2. Does the new HD version allow Multicamera editing?

    3. What OS System will I need to have set in place?

    4. If I go to the AVID site, am I correct to assume I want the $149 upgrade?

Thanks for any info, and if you’ve done this and think there is any additional info that would help make this process as seemless as possible it would be greatly appreciated. I generally don’t take any technical steps without at least consulting you guys first.

The latest XPress Pro version (5.7) has dropped the HD designation. There is no longer the XPress Pro DV line, either. Unfortunately, it looks like you’ve got a $495.00 price tag:

Here is a link to 5.7 system requirements:

A G4 is not listed. Thats not to say it won’t work – you may not be happy with the performance.

I don’t work with HDV, but I’ve heard the more processor power you have the happier you and your footage are.

[dmcel23] “2. Does the new HD version allow Multicamera editing?”

Yes. You only get 4 streams, but you can group as many clips as you like. Map the step button and you can go through all of your clips.

    10.4.10

[dmcel23] “4. If I go to the AVID site, am I correct to assume I want the $149 upgrade?”

As long as you registered your copy, I believe that to be true.

The best advice I can give is to read EVERYTHING. Twice. I recently upgraded from 5.2 to 5.7. Had I not had someone looking over my shoulder, I would not have noticed the difference in the boxed version instruction regarding updating the dongle. The web instructions are correct.
