Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Updating Tip

Folks I’ve seen a couple of threads pop up here and in a few other forums where folks need to regress back to an earlier version of FCP or another software for whatever reason.

My tip for all of you is to create a “Downloads / Updates” folder somewhere on your system so you can save everything you download. Even with Software Update you can save the downloads for future use. In Software Update choose Update > Install and Keep Package. This will allow you to re-run any software update in the future.

I do this with all of my software so if I ever need to revert to something or have to re-install something from scratch, I have all the updates in one place. Of course periodically back up these updates to a flash drive or CD.

Just my friendly tip of the day. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Yep, I began this from day one when we switched over to fcp from smoke.

Everything downloaded goes into the “documents” folder.

The Software Update app puts packages in the MacHD/Library/Packages folder if you choose the ‘download’ or ‘keep and install’ options, but that seems to be an OK place for them. Thanks for the tip.
