Updating Quicktime?

Dear Wick,

iTunes is telling me I must update to a newer version of QT to get in.
Darn. Are you suggesting that Beta testing have proved that updated from 7.5.5 to the latest version won’t have my “purple clips” monster back?

Hi Isabell,

With Media 100 i v8.3.2a, if you want “good” clips in your bins AND you want to playback video, you MUST stay at QT v7.5.

If you don’t care about the clips in bins being purple (some say it’s pink), then you can go to v7.6, but I don’t recommend it ’cause there’s really no pay-off and we have no idea what will happen with v7.6.1-7.6.4.

I expect your next question will be how to back up iTunes, and I don’t know the answer to that one, sorry. Though I imagine it would be done much like you would back up QuickTime.

You did catch me in time. Thank you for your response. I do need to see my media appropriately, the purple clips are SCARY. So, I guess I am in a bit of a pickle with iTunes now…..Well… I am now just thinking that I could update QT on my laptop to download iTunes stuff and keep my desktop as my Media-100 dinosaur eh? If I brought files from my laptop over to my desktop (media100) could I bring the music files over in a way that itunes on my desktop wouldn’t have to read them? What do you think?

This shouldn’t be a problem, especially if you set up your desktop system to open the music files with QT rather than iTunes.

• The following is to be done on the Media 100 i v8.2.3a system.
• Highlight a music file and use keyboard shortcut “Command (apple) + i” to bring up the info window.
• In the “Open with:” section, set it to open with QuickTime Player.
• Then click the “Change All” button to use QT for all such music files.
• You should only have to do this once, from now on, all such files should open in QT Player.
