    Super quick question…

For various reasons I need to give my colorist a big video file instead of an xml with linked source material. He’ll just chop it up in DaVinci. (We’ve got the dissolve issues solved, etc.) Obviously we’re losing the flexibility of updating the edit, etc.

So here’s the question: I give him the file, he chops it up and grades, and then I need to replace a shot or two. No change in timing, literally just swap out a shot. What’s the quickest and most headache-free way to approach a swap like that?

    thanks

    1. Import new shots into the media browser.
    2. Go to the Conform page, unlock a track or make a new one.
    3. Drag in from the left upper window into timeline.

    Done.

Or just replace the whole video file renaming it to the same name you had first time.

Or just use a folder based workflow from the start and whenever you get new media, replace the contents of one folder with the latest render.
That one is totally hassle free on the DaVinci side, you just need to keep track of the versions in a project management system.

So if we just replace the file in the media pool, DaVinci will retain all the cuts it made and transfer the various grades to its chopped up little clips?

I guess that makes sense but it’s almost too easy!
