October 7, 2011 at 11:09 pmJust got the same message today when upgrading! Open your Activity Monitor (in your Utilities folder) and find “dynamiclinkmanager” in the list of processes. Select it, and press the stop sign. When prompted, choose the “Force Quit” option.
I think the dynamiclinkmanager turns on whenever you start to run PPro or AE, etc — so it can keep track of when files are updated in their respective apps. A super-handy thing to have, but yes: a pain to shut off.

October 8, 2011 at 3:48 pmYou can also just restart your computer to stop all such processes. I tend to do my updates by choosing Help > Updates in Bridge.
The Dynamic Link manager process is essentially what it sounds like: It manages the passing of information back and forth between After Effects and Premiere Pro when you use Dynamic Link. It’s supposed to stop when the other (host) applications stop, but sometimes it stays open even when the host applciations are closed. That’s a bug.

October 8, 2011 at 5:25 pmThanks Ben, That worked. I really appreciate it.
I had re-booted, then back into the update process and it would hang there again. Did this a couple of times. I could not get around it.
Got it now.

October 10, 2011 at 4:12 pmThe error message that you showed doesn’t say that Premiere Pro CS5.5 is failing to update. It says that the updates for the previous (5.0) version of Adobe Media Encoder is failing to update. Furthermore, it’s saying that the failure is because of the incorrect moving or deletion of AME CS5.0… as if you deleted or moved the AME CS5.0 application without using the uninstaller.
