  • Updated info on capture problem.

I still have not solved my mystery digitzing problem. I tried all again with a rented Sony DSR-V10 deck.

System: Our system is newly upgraded. We have a new Asrock motherboard, 3.4GHz single core Intel processor, new C:drive and new sound card. We have 1.5GB of ram.

The drive I capture to is a MyBook Premium ES Edition, 500GB. It’s connected with an eSATA cable. The original drive was formatted in NTFS, our C drive is also NTFS.

I went back, on a whim, and tried to re-capture a 1-hr speech I had captured previously with success. The former project was captured to another MyBook Drive via USB that was formatted FAT32. All was well and good.

I just put that same tape into our rented Sony DSRV-10 deck and about 9 minutes into capturing the video to the new NTFS, eSATA MyBook 500GB drive, the choppiness and obscenely high number of drop frames began again.

Could my install of Premiere be problematic?

    ARGH!

    Thanks again,
    Julie

These Mybook drives are really slow, I found that the hardway. ESATA doesn’t make any difference here, since the drive itself is the issue.

    But they are sure cheap…

Now, I don’t know what the rates is on that particular drive (Well I did find this: https://www.pcworld.com/product/specs/id,29938-c,harddrives/specs.html), but is this the only drive you are having issues with ?

[FilmJulie] “about 9 minutes into capturing the video to the new NTFS, eSATA MyBook 500GB drive, the choppiness and obscenely high number of drop frames began again”

Have you done a surface scan on the drive to check for errors? Also if this is a problem that occurs after a time period elaspes you may have a heat problem on the drive.
