update psd files in ae
Hey guys,
when I import a psd file in ae have the layers of my psd file, but when I add a new layer in my psd file how can I update ae to see these new layers.
Example:-PSD file with two layers
-import in ae
-make a new layer in psd and save now I have 3 layers
-how to update ae to see the 3. layer without closing aeThanks Guys you are great

Did you import into AE as combined footage or selected layers?
And are you saving the photoshop file after additional layers/changes? -
Hi,
I always create a couple of empty additional layers in PS when I know that I may have to add elements. This way I only need to use the reload function in AE after altering the empty layer in PS.

You don’t. Remember: AE works with references – a reference that is not there in the first place simply cannot be updated (How should AE know about it?). I agree that a “re-scan PSD file and import layers” function would be useful, but for the time being either follow Serge’s suggestion or simply use the various footage import and replacemnet functions to load your extra layer manually.

This is, in fact a feature request I have made. Don’t know what the status of this is, but I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt to have more people submit it as a request 😉
