Update on exporting for client DVD authoring
A week ago I posted the following: I’ve shot and edited a show on Beta SP. I’m about to start editing. I’m using 8 bit uncompressed. The client wants to send the video out to a local DVD authoring company in their area, and they’ve asked me to provide the show as a quicktime file. What’s the best way of doing this? I expect the show will be about 5-7 minutes in length.
The show is about 6:40 in length. I’ve asked the client to send me a hard drive so I can export the quicktime file and ship it back to them. My question now is how do I export this for the best quality? I know they want quicktime, but I don’t know what tools the authoring company has. Do I just export my sequence as a self contained quicktime movie uncompressed? Or do I export it using quicktime conversion? Thanks so much!

Contact the DVD authoring company and ask what codec they prefer.
It would be best to use the “Export Quicktime Movie” command (self contained) rather than Quicktime conversion…but if they do not have Final Cut Studio, they may not be able to open a file using the Apple 8 bit Uncompressed codec.
If they cannot use this Apple 8 bit Uncompressed, there are a number of other alternatives…best to ask them what they prefer.

This is something you should really ask the DVD authoring facility directly since they do this all the time.
Chances are, all you need to do is export your video directly out of FCP…
File > Export > QuickTime Movie…
Keep everything as current settings (which should be uncompressed 8-bit from what you describe) and make the movie self contained.
