FCP is crashing when I drop certain qtime files into it,,,,,

it seems that my original files were converted to qtime via media 100

However if i import the file into fcp and try to view it crashes immediately and fcp closes

this has only happened since installing fcp studio previously the files played fine on fcp 4.5. all non media 100 generated files with avid codecs also play fine

has the new install of fcp studio removed all the previous codecs and why will the files play in qtime but not fcp?? I have installed a media 100 codec and can view the files in qtime just not fcp (it crashes)

Someone has suggested buying qtime pro and trying to convert the files to Mpeg4 as a workaround as I cant even do this via compressor as the files crash that (compresssor)also..

I’m confused here any suggestions?? The files contain my showreel and a client wants to see a ddv tomorrow ..typical…all help much appreciated

    Where is the ORIGINAL video?

Why don’t you just record the M100 output to DV tape?

    OR-

You might be able to get these QT files out to DV another way.

There is “SimpleVideoOut” a small app that will play a QT movie directly out from the Mac via FireWire.
It can be recorded to DV tape WITHOUT FCP.
Then just capture to FCP from the DV tape.

Its a free download from Apple.

The qtimes are broadcast files gathered over many years from digi-beta stock.

Tho original stock is in various locations hence why they are all on my Lacie drive it holds all my video records..this is backed up on my G5 harddrive but I’m having the same problem there…so its something to do with the FCP studio upgrade and the filess having originaly been exported to qtime files via media 100. Everything worked before the upgrade!

I think I may be missing some special codec for qtime someone suggested I need to install fcp with the media 100 codec in place already but surely I dont have to re-install fcp just to add a codec or for it to work??

Perhaps the media100 codec is not compatible with your version of quicktime.

You do have the osftware versiion of the m100 codec installed, no? If not, get it, otherwise it looks for M100 hardware.

I think that this may be the problem but finding the correct media 100 codec has been difficult the one on their site will not install automatically and just opens with stuffit and sits there not installing on the desktop(maybe it’s just me).

i did get a way round it and that was to upgrade to qtime pro and and then convert the files to 8 bit uncompressed files through qtime pro. It works now but I’ve had to convert my entire library to use in fcp but at least it works.

Only problem now was when I was trying to use compressor to export the new files from FCP (convert to mpeg 2 60 min high quality) to use in dvd stdio pro, compressor locks up and freezes (needing a computer shut down ) at around 600 frames (the project is 5 mins long).

The only way round this was to export using self contained qtime again ( Pal 48khz)not compressor and import these into dvd studio pro.

Still it works at the moment (using this method) I’ll look at the compressor problem later (need a break from the glitches at the moment)

    thansk for everyones input
