  • Update layers in a comp using a website database as a source?

    Hi there,

I was wondering if it would be possible using code / scripts to make an After Effects template / comp to have the layers replaced by images generated through a website?

Example, you have a character with individual layers for the head, the mouth, the nose, etc, and based on a combination of those assets the user would set online, the character is updated.

Then After Effects would automatically render out the animated template with the replaced assets.

    Does that make sense?

    Thanks in advance,

    Lucas.

Tools like Dataclay’s Templater are built for this:

Certainly! You can create a system where users customize character elements via a web interface, with server-side logic generating unique combinations of assets based on their selections. Then, using scripting in Adobe After Effects, you can automate the process of replacing corresponding layers in a pre-made After Effects template with these generated assets and render out the customized animations. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a simpler solution without scripting, you can explore using video editing apps like CapCut, which offer basic customization features and could potentially be integrated with a web-based asset generation system for a streamlined workflow.
