  • Upconversion of DV-Material mixed with HDV …

    Hi all,

different question regarding what to do best:

I’ve got a project where HDV and DV is mixed.
The grading will be done in Color.
I’m mediamanaging the timelines at the moment, so the DV-material will be Pal ProRes and the HDV will be HD ProRes for the grading process.
I want to do an HD-CAM-Master and a DigiBeta-Master and would love to use the scaling of the Kona3. But when I scale the PAL-stuff in the HD-timeline the scaling will be done by FCP, if I don’t apply scaling it’s going to show not fullscreen, of course. So how should I do it?
Second, if I play out to DigiBeta using downconversion, the PAL-stuff will be upconverted by FinalCut and then downconverted by Aja, which is kind of not what I want, since nobody knows, what’s the quality loss, there?

If anyone’s got suggestions, I’d be very happy if she/he would share them.

    Thanks,

    MatzeHali

    Hi,

Would it be better to capture it as HD (would the Kona do the scaling)?

You could use a Teranex Mini to scale it to HD before it hits the Kona:

The above price is wrong. Current MSRP is $2,995. I can get them for under $2,500.

    Best Wishes,

    Mitch

    Well, yes,

I could recapture about 90min worth 4-second clips from out of about 300 tapes, but I’d rather go the route converting the stuff I already have on my harddrives. 🙂
So, it seems nobody has any idea.

    Well,

I’ll try a few ways and report back with the best results …

    Cheers,

    MatzeHali
