I’m working with a bad VHS source that needs to have its contrast adjusted. I used the Shadow/Highlight filter which seemed to work, but when I rendered it out there was an occasional “flicker” or “flash”. I think I narrowed the issue down to having my Temporal Smoothing setting at zero. When I moved it to 2 or 3 the flicker dissipated but my render time significantly increased for my 1GHz G4 powerbook.

So, is there a way to correct the contrast without significantly upping your render time? Is using the Shadow/Highlight filter a preferred method for contrast adjustment?

    thanks,
