    Hello All,

I have a few vhs tapes tat are old and the video is a bit unstable. For the most part they play fine with the occasional glitch. However everytime they hit a glitch the video drops frames on capture. Is anyone else able to capture slightly unstable footage without dropping frames? I thought I read somewhere that the IO LA has a built in tbc that can compensate for bad tapes upon capture. However I could be pushing the equipment to its limit and need to turn off the option to stop capture on drop frames. Thanks to all for the great help so far.

I had to add an external Frame Sync. I bought a used FOR.A FA-210 off E-bay for around $100. Based on my experience the Io Frame Sync does not weem to have a large enough window for VHS time base errors.

Lee thanks for the info. They even mention it on their website that an external sync box may be needed. I just wanted to verify from those with experience.

You can sync it externally, but that won’t help with your VHS capture issues. The signal off your VHS machine is too unstable for Io’s frame sync to fully correct.
