Unscaled RGB and Linear Video
Apple COLOR can’t cope with this: I’ve got a RED plus GoPro transcoded –> ProRes project and the issue is that a proportion of the RED-source footage looks like it was incorrectly scaled. Scenes that should exhibit healthy black levels and superwhite scopes out to be floating up around 10 IRE and never makes it past about 94 IRE. Bring the media into Resolve and flip the scaling to full scale RGB and it looks great, and the scopes show me values that I can use. It doesn’t appear to be a metadata problem — nothing unusual in gamma or space settings… pretty default when it comes down to it.
Same behaviour whether I try this with the ProRes export or the original RDC. At this point I do NOT want to use the ProRes, as the dynamic range in the files has been apparently severely compromised — to the tune of about 20 IRE units are missing, and of course the gamma map is mismatched across the resulting grey scale. Looks like I will have to go back to the RDC and flip the video scaling on each affected source clip…. unless someone out there in the cloud has encountered this and has an alternate strategy?
Has RED changed something between builds that would result in 0-1023 being confused with 94-930?
