Hi, I am super new to Illustrator so I need help.

So I have a layer and a lot of groups/sublayers, and, I want to export these layers to After Effects, so, I pretty much want to unparent them, but, no matter what I try to do I cant seem to figure out how to do it.

Here is a list of stuff I already tried:

  • Tried going to Object > Ungroup (It is grayed out)
  • Tried to “Release Layers.”
  • Tried to drag the layers down and up in the layers tab.

Based on this image it seems that you have only one layer available.
You can’t ungroup / release / separate the sublayers if there’s no place for them to go.

It should work. Select your one layer by clicking on the circle on the right of the Layer Name.
Then from the panel menu, choose Release to Layers (Sequence).
It will look like nothing changed. However, you can now select all of the sublayers in one go and drag them down until you see a horizontal line. Release and the sublayers will now be layers of their own.

By “it should work” I meant what you tried.
