  • Unpairing two channels of audio

I use a Beachtek audio adapter with my Canon 60D. Only one channel is being used. In FCP 7 I can modify the audio tracks and seperate channel one and two allowing for independent adjustments to each channel. Basically un-pairing them. Where can I do that in FCP-X? I need to cut off the channel without a mic that is giving hiss and use the dominant channel that has the good audio.

Select the clip in the timeline and go to the audio tab in the inspector. Change the track settings to mono and disable (uncheck) the empty track.

You can also do that for the whole clip in the event viewer

You can also do that for multiple clips in the event browser. Works great.

There’s an import setting to eliminate silent audio tracks… it might not work if there’s amplified hiss however.

And Steve…laughing out loud. Will we need to find a 12 step program to get us off of FCX?

I’m calling it FCX. They took the “pro” out, so I will too.
I’ll reconsider after the first upgrade.

I’ll also note that there can be times when you want to use both tracks in a Dual Mono situation.

If you have the clip set to Dual Mono (check in Inspector) you can Break Apart the clip and you will have access to both Mono tracks. There’s risk of losing sync at some point though. Other various can be using the Open in Timeline feature to adjust the individual tracks.

What I’d like to see is Dual Mono support in the Expand Audio/Video feature and even the Precision Editor. This would allow for more complex audio trimming.

That would be great, just submitted a feature request for that one!

If you Break Apart and then make a Compound clip from the parts, you can maintain sync and still access the separated audio inside the Compound Clip.
