    Hi there

I am trying to run one of my old AE projects and there is a plugin with name “ALPHA holes” and also “ALPHA spaces” which I have no clue who made these plugins, who is their developer so I could try to obtain/buy them once again as I do not have their install files anymore (too much time passed since I made that project so I have no clue what they were).

So is here anyone who could tell me who is the developer/company of those two plugs so I could check and contact its developer afterwards (that is to buy the plugin so I could run my old project), please?

After looking up online for the developers of these plugins, it took me a while to find something connected to it but I found a developer with the name Red Giant Software. I cannot be 100% certain that they are the developers but I recommend you try to reach out to them via their website: https://www.maxon.net/en/red-giant

These plugins I heard were part of their trapcode suite of animation and visual effects for Adobe After Effects.

You can contact them directly here: https://www.maxon.net/en/support-center To ask if they know anyone who developed these plugins in the past. Best of luck!

I saw this post just before I had to disappear to a trade show (urgh) all week. And building on Hector’s reply, I wondered if the Wayback machine would supply some answers.

The latest I could find was from 2017 and the page doesn’t list Alpha Space or Alpha Holes:

    https://web.archive.org/web/20171023202850/https://www.redgiant.com/products/trapcode-suite/

At least not in the Trapcode Suite. But if Hector is right and the developer is listed as Red Giant, they acquired the Trapcode plugins to go alongside their own.

Nothing obvious was listed and most of their suite of plugins still exist today. Dead end.

But then another search for “red giant” holes turned up this old page:

    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/336937-REG/Red_Giant_PRIMPACKFD_Primate_Plug_In_Pack_Keying.html

    with this feature:

    Composite Wizard Miracle Alpha Cleaner

Clean grain and fix "holes" in your alpha mattes in one easy step.

This might not be a reference to your missing plugins, but given the name Alpha Holes, I’m wondering the old project was using something a simpler choker effect to improve a matte?

    Edit:

I found a little more, could it be Red Giant’s Primatte Keyer:

I tried for a long time to update my perpetual licence for Red Giant, but Maxon “Sales” was persistent in being “not interested”. I would go as far as to state that Maxon “killed off” Red Giant, and it is no longer installed or offered to my clients.

But for everything else, I have “replaced” Cinema 4D with Blender, and have plety of options for alternatives to Red Giant.

    Well done Maxon.

Happy to dig out my old licence if I can help a colleague in need.

Very true Mads. Subscription models like Maxon One being twice the cost of the full Adobe Creative Cloud suite must be limiting uptake to companies only

    Hey Graham,

I know of one multi-seat agency that felt the cost for Cinema 4D was too high, so they replaced it with Blender.
Don’t get me wrong, Maxon has nice tool on paper. But if their sales department are so far up their own backside that you run the risk of getting a kaleidoscope effect of their face every time they open their mouth. Then they are going to be struggling. I simply gave up waiting for a price for updating my Red Giant perpetual licence. Not surprised if other loyal customers will have had the same experience.

But although C4D can feed in to other packages like Blender. Question is when Unity Technologies and Unreal Engine will be best in class on sculpting, painting and animating?
Both of those have got a number of industries, including Film and Television, that they are developing tools for. Not sure that the enterprise model will be more cost effective, but the usage will be cross platform.

    Just thinking out loud.
