After Effects won’t open today for some reason…
    I get this error…
Unknown Exception…. unexpected failure during Application Startup?
I tried trashing prefs, restarting, Zapping the PRAM etc…

    CS4 on MacPro OSX 10.5.8
Any ideas? Do I need to reinstall AE?

try removing the entire folder that the prefs are contained in. it should be in users/[username]/library/preferences/adobe/after effects its the folder named for the version number, like ‘9.0’. pull the whole folder to the desktop. and restart ae.

I did the OPTION + COMMAND + SHIFT on launch and that did the trick.
Which apparently does the same thing as deleting that folder.
    Thanks so much for responding!

Signed up here as I found i always end up here after I Google a problem.

Found a fix tho, restore your fonts in ‘font book’ applications to the original ones and it loads up no problem.
