Unique P2 based workflow – can Vegas handle it?

September 4, 2013 at 3:13 amI have multiple P2 clips that I’ve synced with Plural Eyes. I want to smart render these P2 clips (batched, with the same timecode) to include 8 tracks of audio, 4 of which were production audio, and 4 camera audio.
The client is hard to please and I’d like to present them P2 files that include all the audio because a previous crew caused grief in this area.
Is Vegas possibly capable of this? Premiere is very much not so (still trying though), and Avid and Final Cut don’t like handling P2 natively so I can’t imagine they can pull off this trickery.

September 4, 2013 at 3:31 amI’ve never worked with P2 footage, but if Vegas Pro can do it, you will need to enable multichannel mapping in the render template. I have a tutorial on my web site that shows you how with QuickTime. You should be able to do the same with Sony MXF or whatever format you finally deliver your P2 footage as.

September 4, 2013 at 3:34 amPremiere has this strange implementation that to export P2 I have to map the channels as two tracks of 5.1 and it doesn’t allow me that option with all the other trickery I have to pull… worth seeing what Vegas can do in this instance.

September 4, 2013 at 7:48 amYes, Vegas can handle all that you want done.
I work with P2 files occasionally with no issues at all.
So you should be ok. Just make sure you are using the latest
version of Vegas (Build 670).Steve Rhoden
