I’ve searched endlessly on apple’s website for the list of things to delete to begin the uninstalling process and I haven’t found a damn thing. Can anyone send me a link to some source that gives out that kind of information? Why doesn’t final cut pro come with it’s own uninstaller anyway? Please help. CIAO for now!!!!

I agree…why does the very company who makes the OS not provide an unistaller for their own apps? Huge oversight IMO. Reinstalls in the case of problems are hit or miss because you can’t guarantee that a loose file is still floating around.

Also, a “decompose” feature like AVID is sorely missed, and one that works with Quicktime movies, PICTs etc.

Sorry, no link, but I had to rant.

What other application makes an uninstaller? I know the makers of my capture card do, but Microsoft doesn’t, Avid doesn’t, Adobe doesn’t…why pick on Apple?

    How to uninstall FCP 5

Here’s the way to do it:

    1) Close FCP
    2) Go to: /users/username/library/preferences/
    a. Delete the com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
    b. Delete the FCP User data folder.
    3) Go to: Applications
    a. Delete FCP application
    b. Delete FCP HD addition easy setups folder.
    4) Go to: /library/applicaton support/fcp system support/
    a. Delete Custom Settings folder
    b. Delete Plugins folder
    5) Go to: /library/receipts/ and delete the following:
    a. AnalogPAL.pkg
    b. AppleIntermediateCodec.pkg
    c. DigitalPAL.pkg
    d. DVCproHDCodec.pkg
    e. FinalCutPro.pkg
    f. FinalCutproHDUpdate4.5.pkg
    g. FinalCutProHelp.pkg
    h. HDVCodec.pkg
    i. IMXCodec.pkg
    j. Uncompressed422.pkg
    k. VideoOutSupport.pkg
    6) Insert the FCP 5.0 upgrade disk and re-install.

    7) Run the OSX Disk Utility
    a. Select the OSX drive
    b. Repair the Disk Permissions.
    c. Reboot.
8)Run Software update to get back to 5.0.4.

just because everyone doesn’t do it currently is not a particularly forward thinking reason not to create one. if you follow that same logic then lets not have any new versions of apple pro apps – cause they all work pretty fine now just how they are

imagine those twelve or so steps that shane so graciously wrote out could be elminated by one small app?

having said all that there are much more important features i would like to see before an uninstaller…but im not a programmer so i dont know how hard it would be to make one anyway 🙂

just a thought no flaming intended 🙂

Doesn’t the MAC OS include a way to unistall programs? I know in windows there is an add/remove programs feature in the control panel.

Thank you all for your information. The fact is that apple did have a list for unistalling FCP 4 at one point in time, but they’ve since taken it off the support website. CIAO for now!!!

For the record, Avid Xpress Pro does have an uninstaller built into its installer application on both Mac and Windows.

It should be standard with any professional application, I think.
