I’m working in Illustrator CS. I have some shapes that were created from a multi-layered design by using the path tools to cut pieces from the existing layers. For example, I created several pie wedge shapes by taking a star shape and a circle shape within the design and then using the “intersect shapes” path tool. Once cut, these pie shapes are separated as individual shapes by sight, but the circle of pieces are grouped, or perhaps more accurately, they make up the whole shape being a circle of separated wedges. I need to be able to get these pieces ungrouped. The ungroup command does not work even after I’ve expanded the shape. Is there some technique or command that will work here.

The only way I thought of doing this was to white arrow select each individual piece and then copy it onto a separate layer, but I have hundreds of shapes and not as much time. If I have to, though, I will resort to this.

    Any help is greatly appreciated,
    -eric

    Instead of Ungroup, you need:

Object > Compound Path > Release
