Unfolding paper dolls effect?
Hello all! This may be my first post in the after effects forum but I used to be an active meber in the Vegas forum.
Question 1
I’m trying to create an effect of dolls unfolding. You know those paper dolls you cut out, unfold and streatch them out, and they are all connected and the same shape? Same idea here but it will be expanding and unfolding both vertically and horizontally. I did a couple of seconds worth of the effect but what I am wondering is if there is an easier way to make After Effects do all the flipping?Question 2
After I figure out question 1, I need to make it look like the dolls are unfolding to create a globe. I know there isn’t a way to bend the dolls in AE, but I thought I might render out the dolls unfolding and then map it to a Sphere in 3D studio MAX. What do you think?I hope what I am saying makes sense.

Making the dolls unfold was pretty simple. I think I did it in After effects. For the globe morph I used a transition right inside of Sony Vegas, my NLE of choice. Vegas lets you control the progress of a transition and there is a free ball transition plugin (https://www.mikecrash.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&id=70) that did the morphing part for me. I paused the transition at the point when it makes a complete ball before it goes bouncing off the screen. Next I grabbed images from NASA of the Earth slowly rotating -> https://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/vis/a000000/a002700/a002709/ and dissolved the doll-ball into the globe making sure both were the same size.
