  • Unexpectedly Quit during loading + canvas freeze

I’m capturing from my Canon HV20 via Firewire basic into a project in FCP 6.0.5 I start the capture and the first part of the interview on tape plays for about 6:50 before I get the message that FCP has unexpectedly quit. Anyone encountered something like this, or have a solution? I can see no break in the time code, I’ve cleaned the play heads, I’ve trashed the Preferences, and I’ve verified Permissions. The capture settings are HDV Apple ProRes 442 (HQ) and my media drive is a G-Tech G Raid 2. Mac Pro OS 10.5.7 QT 7.6.

Another issue is that clips I’ve already captured freeze in the canvas.

Sounds to me like the computer is choking somewhere with the ProRes HQ, but I could be wrong. Can you use the other ProRes setting without an issue, or at the very least capture the clips in HDV and converting to ProRes with Compressor.

I agree with Dennis. I think HQ is overkill. Try regular ProRes (SQ). You won’t lose anything with an HDV source.

You nailed it Dennis. Thanks. I switched to ProRes 422 1440 x 1080 60i and it works again.
